Trip Itinerary
Fly to Paro and drive to Thimphu (1hr).
Post Check into the hotel. In the afternoon visit National Memorial chorten.
Next, stop at the Royal Takin Preserve. Bhutan’s national animal is the takin. This large, shaggy and hoofed mammal has a bit of mythology tied to it.
Later, drive past Tashichho Dzong, also known as the “Fortress of the Glorious Religion”. Completed in 1641, this magnificent fortress contains the main secretariat building, which houses the throne room of His Majesty, the King of Bhutan.
Enjoy the breakfast at the hotel.
Then you will drive onwards to Buddha Dordenma. This gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue is filled with over 100,000 smaller Buddha statues, each like the Buddha Dordenma itself, made of bronze and gilded in gold.
From here, you will hike on a trail that will take you through a beautiful forest patch towards Changangkha Lhakhang. The hike provides magnificent views of the Thimphu valley below. This trail is often used by His Majesty the fourth king as his mountain biking trail.
Post lunch, you will visit the National Institute for Zorig Chusum and the Royal Textile Academy.
After an early breakfast, you will be chauffeured to Punakha (2 hour’s drive). The road climbs steeply through a scenic forest of pine and cedar trees, to Dochu La pass. An incredible Bhutanese mountain pass those peaks at 3140 m (10301 ft) above sea level.
Stop on Dochu La to visit the 108 stupas to honor the fallen Bhutanese soldiers
Later in the afternoon, drive to visit the Punakha dzong.
Check in to the hotel and enjoy your evening.
Early this morning, you will begin your hike to the Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten. You will be driven to the suspension bridge and hike only about 45 minutes.
After your hike, you will be taken for rafting on the Pho chu river (Father river). The Pho Chu, which translates into male river, is fed by glaciers in the Lunana region.
Later in the evening, you will drive to visit the Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang Nunnery. Perched on a ridge amongst the pine trees gleams the magnificent structure of the Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang
Today early morning post breakfast, you will be transferred to Paro (3 hour’s drive).
On arrival in Paro, check-in to your hotel and have lunch. Post lunch visit the Ta Dzong; a watch tower built to defend Rinpung Dzong during the inter-valley wars of the 17th century.
Afterwards, visit a Farmhouse. The beauty of Paro valley is embellished by clusters of old-fashion farmhouses.
Early this morning, take a short drive to Ramthankha, and start your hike to the Taktsang monastery (Tiger’s Nest).
This hike takes about five hours with a 900 m (2952 ft) approximate gain in altitude.
The rest of the day is at leisure.
This morning you will be chauffeured to Paro airport to board your onward flight.
